Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik provided revolving fund to 704 Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) here on Friday.
The programme being organised by BMC was held at Rbaindra Mandap located here in the city.
Pattnaik while addressing the occasion has said that ‘Mission Shakti’ been established in the year 2000 has entered into it’s 16th year. During the course of this 16 year, he said that the women in the state have become much self-dependant than they were earlier.
He said that the State Government had made an arrangement of providing loan to the tne of Rs 1,000 crore for these SHGs at one per cent interest.
Pattnaik provided Rs 10, 000 each to 704 SHGs as these organizations who are playing a big role in eradicating poverty and helping the downtrodden in the society.
He said the state government has taken several initiatives to protect the interests of women. Besides Pattnaik, Women and Child Development Minister Usha Devi , Tourism Minister Ashok Panda, MLAs Priyadarshi Mishra, Bijay Kumar Mohanty and BMC Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena were among others present during the occasion.
