Keonjhar: As many as 62 child labourers were rescued by Keonjhar police from several hotels and dhaba in Barbil, Joda and Anandpur areas in the district on Tuesday.
According to sources, the cops conducted raids at several places in the district during which 48 child were rescued from Barbil Mining Township area and 14 others from Joda and Anandpur area.
A special team along with the district police rescued the children, aged between 12 to 14 years, who were engaged in work due to poor financial condition.
Most of the children were hail from tribal-dominated areas, said the police.
The rescued child labourers were produced before Child Welfare Committee (CWC) as per Juvenile Justice Act. The committee has decided to hand over the rescued children to their respective families after due verification and counselling.
