Cuttack: Fire Services DG today conducted a meeting of top officials of fire departments of all districts at the Cuttack based Fire Services Headquarters. The meeting was called to discuss fire safety arrangements in various important sites including hospitals in the wake of the fire mishap at Sum Hospital that claimed 24 lives so far.
“Be it film halls, malls, hospitals, hotels, apartments or any other buildings, the fire safety measures will be evaluated and action will be taken accordingly. We will investigate which buildings do not comply with fire safety standards and wheteher they have fire clearance certificates and NOCs and why not,” said Fire Services DG, Binoy Behera.
Mock drills will also be ensured regularly at high rise buildings and major sites that witness high public footfall. “We will take necessary steps to ensure such mishaps and fire incidents do not happen again and buildings have proper system and arrangement to carry out effective rescue operations in case of any fire accidents,” he said. Various ranger officers, chief fire officers attended the meeting.
Behera added that DMET and Fire Services need to have co-ordination. “We do not have a list of hospitals that do not have fire clearance. We have requested DMET to provide us with the list,” said Behera.
