ATM hacker

Mumbai: Millions of debit card users have been affected owing to a security breach following which banks in India have either blocked the cards or advised customers to change the security codes. Hacked software of Hitachi Payment Services has led to several unauthorised transactions that have been reported from China and even US. Worst affected debit card issuing banks include SBI, Axis, ICICI and Yes bank.

So far at least 3.2 million cards have been affected making it the biggest ATM security breach, sources said. The malware has helped breach of financial data of customers. Bank authorities have ensured that steps have been taken to check the fraudulent transactions. National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has informed that 19 banks have complained regarding such transactions.

Banks have advised customers to register their phone number and mail ids with the respective bank and not to ignore any transaction update they receive on phone or mail. Changing of ATM pin could also help, said bank sources. Many banks have even recalled around 30 lakh cards.
