Dhenkanal: In a major breakout, basing on the CCTV footage, police have found the accused behind the HDFC Bank loot here at Siminai area of the district.
The two arrested on Tuesday include Soumya Ranjan Mati (aged 20) alias Chimpu of Dolamandap Sahi and Sujit Kumar Rout alias Dipu of Bji Chowk of the district.
The accused had looted Rs 5.32 lakh from the Siminai branch of HDFC Bank on April 13.
SP Basant Kumar Panigrahi has said that police after examining the CCTV footage , a special squad was formed comprising the Town police IIC Abhinab Dalua and Sadar police IIC Gyana Ranjan Samal. They raided various places while tracking the mobile phones of the accused and arrested two of the six from here while the remaining four including a college student, the mastermind of the plan have been absconding.
Police recovered Rs 1.32 lakhs from the house of the two arrested persons as well as the absconding college student. Two mobile phones, a toy pistol, a bill hook, two motorcycles and two masks were also seized from their possession.
Panigarhi said that six persons were involved in the loot. A plus II student of Siminai college is the mastermind. All the accused are residents of Dhenkanal.
Accordingly raided various places and arrested two of them.
The two arrested persons have confessed to their crime during interrogation by police. While Rs 36,156 was seized from Rout’s house, Rs 34,217 was seized from Mati’s house and Rs 62,000 was seized from the house of mastermind.
The accused has confessed that he had bought two expensive mobile phones with looted money.
