Bhubaneswar: Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Wednesday reviewed the situation regarding the SUM Hospital fire incident.
At a press meet after the review meeting with State Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, State Health Secretary and department officials at State Guest House here, Nadda pointed fingers at laxity in actions taken by SUM Hospital authorities in ensuring safety measures and urged state government to take stringent actions against the culprits.
“The incident is very heartrending and saddening, he said. There were some issues with the fire fighting standards and equipments in the hospital and this is a very serious offence especially the information I got to know. Safety measures need to be increased,” Nadda said.
“Taking actions against the culprits is duty of the State Government. It will decide to take actions against whom,” he said adding that “probe reports by committee formed by State Government have to be waited.”
“The Union Government will make sure it provides all the help it can. Health Department Officials will be sent for re-inspection of probe reports from state government.” Nadda said.
Union Minister Pradhan who accompanied him during the press meet added that the CM has only instructed to review safety measures in government hospitals but private hospitals should also be included.
