Singapore: A Singapore court has charged four Non Resident Indians (NRIs) for bursting crackers on Diwali which has been banned in the country since 1972. The Indian origin men were allegedly involved in illegal fireworks in housing estates of Yishun, Bukit Batok and some other localities on Diwali.
The four NRIs are A Hariprasanth, 18, Elvis Xavier Fernandez, 25, Jeevan Arjoon, 28, and Alagappan Singaram, 54, and are accused of reveling dangerously with fireworks, a report of The Straits Times said on Saturday.
Police sources said loud sounds disturbed the peace of the area and they were alerted to find that cylinders containing explosives were kept in their possession. Officials said the cases involving Hariprasanth and Singaram have been adjourned to November 30. Those remanded at Central Police Division are Selvarajoo and Siva Kumar.
