4 districts record over 100 mm rainfall

Bhubaneswar: Odisha recorded average rainfall of 42.3 mm in the last 24 hours while four districts received average rainfall more than 100 mm.

The districts are Gajapati- 228.4 mm, Ganjam- 123.2 mm, Jagatsinghpur- 114.8 mm and Balasore- 102.1 mm.

Eight more districts have received average rainfall between 50 mm and 100 mm.

The districts are Kendrapara- 77.9 mm, Jajpur- 73.5 mm, Cuttack- 71.7 mm, Puri- 69.4 mm, Nayagarh- 68.0 mm, Khordha- 63.7 mm, Bhadrak- 61.3 mm and Kandhamal- 51.2 mm.

Three districts which received average rainfall between 25 mm and 50 mm are Mayurbhanj- 36.0 mm, Dhenkanal- 32.8 mm and Rayagada- 29.1 mm.

Three districts have received average rainfall between 10 mm and 25 mm. The districts are Keonjhar- 20.4 mm, Angul- 17.4 mm and Boudh- 15.3 mm.

Average rainfall in 6 districts remained below 10 mm whereas the remaining 6 more districts have not received any rainfall during past 24 hours.

One block has recorded rainfall of more than 300 mm, 3 blocks have recorded rainfall more than 200 mm and 33 more blocks have recorded rainfall between 100 mm and 200 mm.

Thus in all, 37 blocks have recorded rainfall of 100 mm and above.

The cumulative average rainfall of the state from 1st June till 11th October of 2018 comes to a surplus of 13.0% over the long term average rainfall.

Twelve districts have received surplus rainfall of more than 19% whereas 18 districts have received normal rainfall (+19% to -19%) during the period from 1.6.2018 to 11.10.2018 (cumulative).

Going by blocks, 120 blocks have received surplus rainfall of more than 19%, 161 blocks received normal rainfall (+19% to -19%), 29 blocks received deficit rainfall (shortfall of >19% up to 39%) and 4 blocks received severe deficit rainfall (shortfall of >39% up to 59%) during the period from 1.6.2018 to 11.10.2018.

The Block-wise details of 29 Blocks which have received deficit rainfall (shortfall of >19% up to 39%) and 4 Blocks which have received severe deficit rainfall (shortfall of >39% up to 59%) are indicated below.

Wind warning: Gale wind speed reaching 135-145 kmph gusting to 160 kmph along and off South Odisha coast and adjoining South Odisha districts during next three hours and gradually decrease thereafter becoming gale wind speed reaching 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph in evening and squally wind speed of 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph from tonight to tomorrow morning.

Gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting 80 kmph very likely along and off North Odisha coast during next 12 hours and decrease becoming squally wind speed of 45-50 kmph gusting to 65 kmph thereafter subsequent 24 hours. Squally wind speed of 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph is very likely over adjoining districts of North Coastal Odisha from today afternoon for subsequent 12 hours.
