4 cops arrested for conspiring to free Gurmeet Singh
Chandigarh: Five more people, including 4 cops were arrested by Haryana Police in connection with the alleged conspiracy to free Gurmeet Singh from the courtroom after his conviction in two rape cases on August 25th.
Out of the 4 cops arrested, 3 cops identified as head constables (HC) Amit Kumar and Rajesh Kumar, and constable Rajesh Kumar are Haryana Police commandos who were arrested in Panchkula and the 4th cop Om Prakash nabbed in Hanumangarh is a Rajasthan Police personnel.
The 3 cops arrested in Panchkula were called to join the investigation, said Panchkula DCP Manbir Singh.
They have been booked under the relevant sections of the IPC, including the sedition charge, added Mr Singh.
Apart from these three commandos, seven policemen from other states — uniformed, but not on official duty — were part of Ram Rahim’s convoy to the court on the day of the verdict, revealed by Haryana Police.
“The three Haryana Police commandos were summoned, but they could not give any satisfactory reply as to why they came to Panchkula on that day,” said Panchkula Police Commissioner A S Chawla.
The fifth person, Dilwar Insan, a close aide of Gurmeet Singh was also arrested in Sonepat by the local police headed by SSP Satender Kumar Gupta. He is likely to be presented before a court in Panchkula on Friday, Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) B S Sandhu said.
Several accused in jail have revealed Dilwar’s role in supplying weapons and planning arson after Gurmeet’s conviction.
Earlier, the police had booked the Sirsa-based sect chief spokesperson Aditya Insaan and Sings’s adopted daughter Honeypreet and sent out a lookout notice for them.
