Srinagar: Hours after killing of senior journalist and editor of Rising Kashmir Shujaat Bukhari outside his office in the heart of Srinagar on Thursday evening, police have released a photo of three men, riding on a motorcycle with their faces covered with masks, are suspected to be the murderers.

The photo shows three men riding a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle, hiding something in a sack. While the rider can be seen wearing a helmet, the other two riding pillion, use masks to hide their faces.

Releasing the photos on Twitter, the Kashmir Zone Police has requested the public to help identify the suspects.

The veteran journalist was attacked when he was leaving his office in Press Colony in the city to attend an Iftar party. He was in his car when he was hit by multiple bullets fired at a close range. Two security guards protecting him were also shot at and are stated to be critical.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed their shock over the attack.

Shujaat Bukhari was given police protection since an attack on him in 2000. He was instrumental in organising several conferences for peace in the Kashmir valley and mentored several young journalists. He was also part of the “Track II” or alternate channels dialogue process with Pakistan.
