Bhubaneswar: In the first phase, piped gas will be provided to 255 families in Nalco Nagar in Odisha capital on October 20 under the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Yojana.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will launch the commencement of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) under Urja Ganga gas pipeline project, said Ashutosh Karnatak Director (projects) of GAIL today.
The service will start almost six months before the initial deadline set for the project March 2018.
GAIL India, which has termed PNG as ‘Happy Fuel’ said the step will help in reducing fuel exports and there will be no hassles of booking and storage since the fuel will be continuously supplied through pipes.
The payment will be done on usage basis through meter reading, it added.
Besides, four CNG stations are also under construction and a pilot project will begin in Cuttack by March next year.
GAIL India has also planned to construct a Natural Gas Pipeline of about 769 km length covering 13 districts. The Pipeline will be constructed with an initial investment of Rs 4000 crore.
