Malkangiri: A day after 101 maoists withdrew their aid from the group, 222 other Maoist supporters, including 31 militants, 13 village committee members and 22 women of Santekguda, Badatekgudaand Colony Tekguda under Kalimela block surrendered before the police on Tuesday.
Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra said that after the killing of around 30 Maoists including major leaders by Andhra greyhound and Odisha police’s joint operation in a 90 minute long encounter at Beijing jungle in Malkangiri distict, the group has lost its harmony. He said, during the last four days, around 468 rebels have surrendered before him. The surrendered group were provided with clothes and blankets by the police department.
Meanwhile, Mohapatra said that among other reasons, demonetization of the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 is one of the reason for the group to surrender and aspire to join the mainstream of the society. Demonetisation has made their hoarded cash invalid.
