Sundergarh: Five persons were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly gang-raping a 20-year-old girl in Rengeda forest under Kebalanga police limits in Sundergarh district last night.
The accused persons have been identified as Dhanasana Singh (24), Shankar Singh (21), Rabindra Singh (23), Sahadeb Singh (23) and Umesh Singh (24).
The matter came to light after the victim approached Kebalanga police on Wednesday alleging that she was taken into a forest and was gang raped.
According to complaint, the victim along with her cousin brother was on her way to home when the five accused persons hailing from Renjada and Soumbha village waylaid them. The accused persons then beat her brother and took the girl to the nearby forest where they took turns to rape her. The accused persons then fled from the spot soon after the crime.
Later, the girl narrated the ordeal to her family members on reaching home. Following which, her family members lodged a complaint with the police against the accused persons.
Acting on the complaint, police launched a probe and arrested the accused persons last night. The accused persons have been forwarded to Bonai court today, sources in the police said.
