Cuttack: The number of dengue patients is on the rise at SCB Medical College and Hospital here with 20 persons tested positive for dengue are undergoing treatment at the special dengue ward of the hospital on Sunday.
Of the total blood samples tested at SCB on Sunday, the samples of at least 90 persons were tested dengue positive. Cuttack district remains at the top with 32 dengue positive cases followed by Jajpur which has 11 dengue positive cases. Similarly, nine persons each were found dengue positive in Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur, six in Bhadrak and five cases were reported from Balasore, said SCB emergency officer Dr Bhubanananda Maharana.
While 15 beds have been made available for dengue patients at SCB, five ICUs are functioning to cope with the rising number of patients. Additional eight ICUs are being readied for the dengue patients, hospital sources said.
Sources said dengue has spread its tentacles in Jagatpur area of Cuttack. So far 20 dengue positive cases have been detected in the area. The sanitation condition is pathetic in Jagatpur area. The waste discharged from Jagatpur industrial area has become the breeding ground for mosquitoes.
