Phulbani/Dhenkanal: Two persons died while 11 others sustained injuries in three separate road accidents in the state on Tuesday.
In the first instance, one person died while another sustained injuries after the auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling rammed into a roadside tree near Gumagada panchayat office under Sadar police limits in the district.
The deceased was identified as Lankeswar Malik of Lahabadi village.
According to sources, the driver lost control over wheels and rammed into a roadside tree near Gumagada panchayat office. Lankeswar died on the spot while the injured, identified as Debraj Digal, was rushed to nearby hospital for treatment.
On being informed, police visited the spot and initiated a probe into the incident.
Another accident is reported from Baisia under Chandia police limits in Dhenkanal district where one person was killed after a hyva truck rammed into a betel shop today.
The deceased was identified as Manae Sahu.
The incident occurred in the morning when Sahu was sitting on his shop. The driver of the sand-laden truck lost control over wheels and rammed into the shop. Sahu came under the wheels and died on the spot.
In another incident, at least 10 persons sustained injuries after the auto-rickshaw hit a bike at Daringbada road near Puigada.
Some passerby spotted and rescued the victims. The injured were rushed to Brahmani hospital.
