New Delhi: At least 17 people were killed and 35 others suffered injuries on Wednesday morning when a private bus crashed into a road divider and overturned in Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh.
According to a tweet from news agency ANI, the incident took place at around 5 am near Kiratpur village. The private bus was travelling from Jaipur to Farukkhabad in Uttar Pradesh.
According to sources, the driver of the ill-fated bus lost control over the vehicle and it turned turtle after hitting the road divider. The injured persons have been admitted to Safai hospital in Etawah district.
Meanwhile, Mainpuri District Magistrate Pradeep Kumar confirmed the death of 16 passengers in the early morning mishap.
Senior officials of the district administration rushed to the accident site as soon as they learned about the mishap. The administration engaged cranes to clear the road and lift the bus.
