Bhubaneswar: At least 15 persons were arrested by the Commissionerate police following a group clash between residents of Sisupalgarh and Nuagaon villages on the outskirts of the city last night.
According to reports, the violent clash took place when some youths of Sisupalgarh damaged shops at Nuagaon village and attacked some villagers over past enmity. Few police personnel were injured and a police van was ransacked in the scuffle.
Similarly, a group clash between the people of two villages was ensued earlier in January after some youths of Sisupalgarh had allegedly passed lewd comments on women of Nuagaon.
Reportedly, some youths of Sisupalgarh had scuffled with some villagers of Nuagaon following which two of them were detained and beaten up by Nuagaon villagers while they were attempting to escape.
Irate over the incident, Sisupalgarh residents came together to avenge the thrashing of their co-residents.
Meanwhile, DCP Satyabrata Bhoi along with other senior police officials rushed to the spot and restored normalcy. The police also resorted to lathi charge as the situation took an ugly turn.
