14 Maoists killed in encounter on Odisha-Chhattisgarh border


Sukma: At least 14 Maoists were killed during an encounter with security forces near a forest in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Monday.

16 guns and huge cache of explosive materials have been seized from the spot. Probably this is the first success for the Bastar police when 14 Maoists have been killed together.

Security forces had launched a combing operation following intelligent inputs about the presence of a large number of Maoists in the area when the encounter erupted in a forest between Gollappalli and Konta. The Maoist cadres opened fire at the forces following which they retaliated, said inspector general of police (Bastar Range) Vivekanand Sinha.

The firing continued for almost two hours. With circumstantial evidence, blood stains and scratches on the encounter site, it proves that at least 18-20 Maoists have been killed and the bodies of the remaining comrades have been taken along with them. Dead Maoists were being identified, he added.

10 barmar guns, one 315, one 12 bore, one pistol, one cart, banner, poster, medicines, ammunition, detonator, electric wire, battery, pi, daily material and Maoists literature have been recovered from the spot, police said.
