Bhubaneswar: City based Nandankanan Zoological Park (NGP) authorities here on Monday have welcomed 13 new guests,under three new categories including , four male gharial crocodiles, five swamp deer (two male and three female) and four painted storks.
The animals and birds were brought from Lucknow zoo as part of the animal exchange prgramme. Earlier Nandankanan had sent three sloth beers to Lucknow based Nawab Wajid Ali Shah zoo on March 3.
As per sources, this is first animal exchange programme of this year. The programme has been approved by the Central Zoo Authority of India.
NZP Deputy Director Jayant Kumar Das has said that the new members will be kept under supervision before making them available for public viewing.
With the inclusion of these members, the number of gharial crocodiles in the zoo rose to 86, swamp deer to 11 and painted storks to nine.
