Uttarakhand: At least 13 persons were killed and two others sustained critical injuries after a tempo carrying them fell into 100-metre deep gorge in Uttarakhand on Monday.
All the deceased were residents of Bhatabri area in Gangotri of Uttarakhand.
According to sources, the tempo carrying about 15 passengers was returning from Gangotri. Meanwhile, the driver of the tempo lost control after coming across a landslide and the vehicle fell into the gorge. While 13 persons died on the spot, two others sustained critical injuries.
The injured were immediately rushed to the district headquarters hospitals in critical condition.
The officials of the district administration and rescue team reached the spot and launched a massive rescue operation. However, the bodies could not be retrieved due to bad weather, said a rescue team officer.
