Bhubaneswar: Cracking down a major whip on the activities of antisocial elements ahead of festive season in and outskirts of the city, the Quick Action Team (QAT) busted a gambling gang and nabbed 13 persons involved in gambling by betting money on Saturday.
Acting on reliable information, the QAT raided plot no- 379 of K-9 area under Tamondo police limits and found gambling was going on by betting money. The police team then arrested 13 persons involved in the game and seized cash of Rs 1,43,000 and 2 sets of playing cards from the spot.
The accused have been identified as 40-year-old Rakesh Prusty (organizer), Kanhu Mallick (37), Surendra Sahoo (38) and P Laxmi Narayan Patra (44) of Puri district, Dillip Kumar Barik (35) and Rakesh Kumar Jena (27) of Ganjam, Manoj Kumar Sahoo (28) and Basant Kumar Singh (38) of Balasore, Pradeep Kumar Sahoo (50) of Berhampur, Chudanga Dev Sahoo (21), Surya Pratap Roul (24) and Saban Swain (20) of Debagarh and Chinmaya Hans (20) of Nuapada district.
The accused persons were booked under section 3 of Orissa Prevention of Gambling Act (OPG) and forwarded to court.
