12 member team from Chicago University visited BMC
Bhubaneswar: A 12 member team of Business Department from Chicago University visited Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation on Tuesday and met Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena and Commissioner Krishan Kumar here in the city. The team including Professor Caroline Grassman and Sanjeev Vir of the University discussed on developing a model for waste management.
The Chicago University team alongwith the member of Tata Trust Shishir Ranjan Dash interacted with BMC Commissioner and Smart City CEO about their observation of waste management in the capital city. Prior to this the team members visited some of the slums under BMC to observe and learn the on-going waste management process prevailing in the city.
The delegation along with member of the Tata Trust discussed on various ways to develop a sustainable waste management model which can be implemented in the city and to create a value chain for the rag pickers of the city and ultimately bringing them to the fold of waste management. They also discussed the various projects undertaken by Tata including project livelihood, Water Supply, Sanitation and Sewerage line. It was decided that the Chicago University will be a part of the project which is tied up with Tata Trust to develop a pilot business development model on Waste Management.
Later during evening, the delegation interacted with Krishan Kumar and gave a detailed presentation on waste management needs. Professor Caroline said that they are interacting with the key officials and other stakeholders on developing a business model for waste management. The Chicago University delegates will also go on a visit to Mumbai’s Dharavi Slum on this subject.
