Bolangir: Normal life was thrown out of gear in Bolangir Town following a 12-hour bandh jointly called by Bolangiri Militakriyanustan committee, Congress party along with AIDSO and ABVP activists protesting increasing road accidents in the town.
They resorted to the protest after a Plus Two girl student died in road accident yesterday. Bolangir Traders’ Union and district private bus owners’ association have also joined the dawn-to-dusk bandh.
The denizens are demanding construction of a bypass outside the town for a long time that will help in preventing road accidents, however, the district administration has turned a deaf ear to the pleas, following which we are observing the bandh, said a protester.
Almost all shops, business establishments, offices and educational institutions remained closed extending their support to the strike.
Vehicles stayed off the roads at several places as hundreds of activists also staged picketing. The protesters took out a huge rally and covered the town and other nearby areas to press for their demand.
