11 years jail termed for drug peddler

Cuttack: A drug peddler on Monday was sentenced to undergo imprisonment for 11 years by a court here on charges of peddling ‘Marikuana’ drug.

Pronouncing the judgement, third additional district and session judge SK Sahoo sentenced Vikrant Kumar Singh to undergo a jail term of 11 years and imposed a fine of Rs 1,00,000 and in case of default of payment of penalty, the accused will have to undergo additional six months jail term.

Hailing from Begusarai district of Bihar, Singh was arrested in Cuttack on December 4, 2014 while he was on his way to Begusarai from Berhampur.

Around 33 kg of Cannabis in a bag was recovered from him.

Sleuths of the Central Excise intelligence department had arrested him under Section 20(B) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances(NDPS) Act, 1985.
