11 quintals of kendu leaf seized in Sambalpur, 6 arrested
Sambalpur: Police on Monday seized huge quantity of processed kendu leaves and arrested six persons in this connection at Sagjori village under Charmal police limits in Sambalpur district.
The arrested were identified Gajendra Pradhan alias Gajini (46), Suresh Patra (36) and Sesha Palei (27) of Badmal, Ashok Bhoi (30) and Parikshita Bhoi (35) of Gopalpur and Nepal Dhal (39) of Budhikhamari under Charmal police limits in Sambalpur.
The police seized 220 bundles of processed kendu leaves weighting 11 quintals, two motorcycles, three bicycles, five mobile phones and Rs 20,750 in cash from the arrested persons.
Acting on a tip-off, the personnel of Charmal police station during night patrolling raided at Sagjon village and arrested the six persons when they were keeping the kendu leaf bundles in a house after procuring it from the nearby village. They were planning to transport the kendu leaves to other states for selling it at a high price.
A case under Odisha Timber and other Forest Produce Transit Rules,1980, was registered and the accused were produced in a court today.
