Malkangiri: Orkel police in Malkangiri district seized 106 kg of ganja while it was being smuggled in a car and arrested five persons in this connection.
The arrested were identified as Parsuram Khillo (32) and Budu Khora (21) of Buduriput village in Chitrakonda police limits of Malkangiri, Ashish Malaviya (26), Rajesh Chouksey (32) and Jagat Singh (36) of Madhya Pradesh.
According to sources, a team of police from Orkel police station were conducting vehicle checking on Tuesday on Balimela Road when they noticed one motorcycle followed by one car were coming from Balimela towards Jeypore.
When the police intercepted the vehicles, the two riding motorcycle and three occupants of the car tried to flee but the police team caught them. During the search, the police found polythene packets packed with ganja in the dickey of the car. Upon being inquired, they disclosed that they procured the contraband from Chitrakonda and were transporting to Bhopal area of Madhya Pradesh.
The two locals-Parsuram and Budu-were involved in escorting the car by motorcycle for their smooth passage of consignment up to bordering of Malkangiri.
The accused persons and the seized articles were produced before the court of district judge cum special judge in Malkangiri today.
