Malkangiri : In a major setback to the Maoists community operating in the state, atleast 101 of the ultras have surrendered before the police on Monday.Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra said that the group includes 70 maoist supporters from Batigeta and 31 from Gandhaguda village under Kalimela block in Malkangiri district. With total of 26 women and 75 men, 24 militants were among the 101 who surrendered before police.
With the involvement in maoist activities from a long time, the surrendered gang have reportedly decided to join the mainstream of the society. Mohapatra said that soon developmental programmes will be implemented in both these villages.
He further said that the red rebel group is slowly going on the wane in the district with more than 2500 supporters having already surrendered before him.
