Cuttack: Excise department sleuths on Friday conducted raids on different parts of the city and seized 10 kilo grams of ganja and 50 bottles of illegal Aska-40 liquor. Four persons including a woman were also arrested in this connection.
Acting on a tip-off, Excise superintendent Prabhat Kumar Behera along with a team raided Badambadi bus stand and nabbed one, identified as Praveen Mahakud (32) of Banigochha in Nayagarh district.
Police said a bag containing 10 kg ganja was seized from his possession, which is estimated to cost around Rs 50,000.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Mahakud used to smuggle ganja into the city from Phulbani in Malkangiri district.
In the meanwhile, another team of the excise department raided Dagarpada area in Cuttack and seized five kilo grams of cannabis while arresting one Bikash Bai (32).
Similarly the team also conducted a raid near Shelter Chakk and arrested two persons, identified as Raja Behera (28) and Sk Mausumi (26) for selling illegal liquor. Around 50 bottles of Aska-40 liquor was seized from them.
Police said all the accused have been forwarded to the court.
