Maoists kill police informer
Rourkela: Branding him a police informer, the
Maoists on Saturday night killed one person in
Sundargarh district during his sister's wedding,
police said on Sunday.
Sukura Oram's body with the throat slit was found
this morning.
A group of Maoists entered Kumakela village under
Chandiposh police station, about 30 km from here,
last night and abducted Oram when he was busy with
the wedding ceremony of his sister, the sources
said.
After the body was retrieved from near Champajharan
over bridge, local people staged a road blockade
demanding compensation to the family of Oram and
security to the villagers.
It may be mentioned here that Oram’s house is just
one kilometer away from a CRPF camp.
So once again the security of the villagers is in
question.
Police said that it is the frustrated action of the
Maoists after the joint combing operations on the
borders the Odisha and Jharkhand and demolishing of
two Maoists camps on Saturday.
The red rebels have called the 72-hour bandh in
Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and
Chhattisgarh on Sunday to protest against a proposed
all-out offensive against them by the Centre.
Taking into view the bandh, the police have
tightened security in Maoist prone areas under the
direct supervision of Rourkela SP Deeptesh Pattnaik.
But still the villagers are scared.
However, the bandh call in the Maoist infested
districts on Sunday like Malkangiri, Koraput,
Rayagada, Gajapati districts had little response
with shops and markets remaining open.
But bus services remained off the roads in the
districts of Koraput, Gajapati and Malkangiri.
The Maoists have killed six persons during the past
eight months including two CITU activists and a
police sub-inspector in Sundargarh district's Bonai
sub-division, police said.
